This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things: A Book Review

When parents are expecting a child, there are literally a metric shit-ton of books on the market that can (supposedly) answer every and any question new parents may have. I’m serious, books on everything what to expect (literally a book title right there), from how to feed you kid, solve sleep problems, discipline, fostering brain function, on and on.
But, in my honest opinion, I wouldn’t recommend any of those books to anyone. Why, because they talk at you, not to you. For my money, I want to hear some Dick or Jane who’s been there; in the trenches, hanging onto their last piece of sanity, hoping, wishing, praying, bed time comes soon. Like a grizzled battle-weary soldier…I want someone who was in the shit…literally and figuratively.

Let me introduce you to Clint Edwards, the hilarious mastermind behind No Idea What I’m Doing: A Daddy Blog. Clint should be no stranger to anyone here, as I have guest hosted him before, but also because he has been sharing his spot-on writing about marriage and parenting for quite a while now. If you’re even barely on Twitter, you’ve seen him, almost weekly, in the Huffington Post Funniest Parents.
Clint was one of the first bloggers I came across when I started thinking about starting my own blog. I quickly became a fan of many of his stories, and saw there could be so much honesty, and fun, when talking about your family.
I was excited when we connected via social media one day, and he told me he was a fan of my writing too. I was even more excited when he asked me to review his new (new-ish, because I’m a total slacker) This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things.
This book is a fantastic collection of some of Clint’s most popular posts, along with a ton of new stories that will have you laughing uncontrollably from cover to cover. Stories like The Day We Caught Our Kids Looking at Their Buttholes and An Open Letter to My Newborn.
I would take stories/advice from fellow writers like Clint any time over those other books, and you should too!!

A fascinating and truly thought provoking article. Internet is a great alternative to books.
