Butter Coffee and Being Almost 40 (Kind Of)

It’s hard to believe that I’m almost 40. When I was a kid, 40 seemed ancient, and now, it’s right around the corner for me. In fact, you can find me most days obsessing about that fact, much to the annoyance of my wife.

She tells me to stop stressing over such trivial things; even going as far as saying crazy stuff like, “Stop worrying so much. 40 is not right around the corner. You have 15 months before you’re 40. Hell, you’re not even 39 yet!”

See what I mean? She clearly doesn’t get it.

I don’t know if it’s because we had our 2nd child this year, or the fact that our first is almost 5 (when it feels like he was just born last week), or that my clothes seem a whole lot snugger than they used to feel. The truth is, it’s all of the above.

I’m not getting any younger, or thinner, folks. Remember, I’m almost 40; clearly life is winding down for me. At least I can do something about one of those issues.

I recently went to the doctor to get a check up, and to see how long I have left to live. It was great to hear that after all my blood work and tests, pretty much everything looked great…except for the extra weight I’m carrying around. The doctor hit me with some info from the Dept. of NO DUHHHH:

Doc: Mike, you need to shed some pounds my friend. As you get older, it gets harder and harder to lose weight.

Me: But doc, what’s the point man, I’m almost 40.

Doc: You’re not even 39 yet.

Me: You too, huh? Have you been talking to my wife?

After discussing my daily routine and eating habits, my doctor gave me some grave news – I would have to cut back on caffeine. That means no soda and…(gulp) less coffee. “But Doc!” I protested, “I have two kids under the age of 5 man! Coffee is my life’s blood! Don’t take that away from me!!”

After we shared a moment of silence for my horrible affliction of two kids, he told me I would still need to cut back because, “You want to be around as long as possible for those two.” But do I really??

All jokes aside, the doctor is right. I have always struggled with my weight. There have only been two times in my life where I was in really good shape. The first was (sadly) 19 years ago when I graduated from Army Basic Training. But the last time is even more sad, because it was just three years ago.

I had worked really hard after our son was born to be more active and lose weight. I had gone above and beyond any training I had ever done in my life, and was rewarded with losing over 70 pounds, and keeping it off for about a year. Unfortunately, I fell back into bad habits, and let stress get the better of me, and have since put almost all the weight back on. The memory of feeling good and losing it all weighs on me everyday (pun intended).

That’s why I’m not waiting to make some lame new year’s resolution; instead, I’m making a life resolution to be fit by the time I’m 40. How am I going to get there? Simple. I’m going to start eating better again, becoming more active again, cutting out soda, and…by drinking coffee.

Drinking coffee?!?! But Mike, the doc said….aha, hear me out. I’m not going to be drinking the same old coffee I’ve been drinking; I’m switching it up, and will now be drinking Bulletproof Coffee.

Bulletproof is an awesome alternative to other coffees, that may have performance-robbing mold toxins.  Bulletproof combines rich, delicious coffee, with butter. Whaaaaat?!? Butter?? That’s right, I said butter folks. It’s actually grass-fed ghee, which is a clarified butter and has amazing nutritional benefits. The last step is adding in some of their brain octane oil (which contains 16x the healthy fats found in coconut oil). The Brain Octane Oil helps give you that brain-boost (felt almost instantaneously) needed to make it through the day. It’s not just coffee too; Bulletproof has a variety of products online and in stores.

I know, you’re probably thinking, but how is this going to help you lose weight Mike? It can’t be that easy! And you’re right. While Bulletproof coffee is not a weight-loss solution all on its own, it’s definitely a (huge) step in the right direction.

I used to drink anywhere from 4-6 cups of coffee a day, all loaded down with creamer and sugar. But with Bulletproof coffee, I get the same full feeling from one 8-10 ounce cup than I did from the previous 4-6 cups. Plus, there is no heavy creamer, no sugar, and thanks to the brain octane oil, and the energy received from the healthy fats, there’s no mid-day crash. All this leads to starting the day off putting the right kinds of things in my body, and having the energy I need to make it through the day, and even squeeze in a workout.

I have a goal to be a whole hell of a lot healthier by the time I hit the big 40, and Bulletproof is going to help along the way.

  1. Sending you good thoughts as you take steps to grow out of yourself and back into your real self! Grow, because change means growth and this is a hard change. Doable, but not easy. I look at my (gasp!) barely past 50 shape and shudder. Where did those chins come from? That extra large muffin top? Being a person with Diabetes means I do eat fairly logically, but….yeah, that butt! My blessings to you, Mike!
