Time to Ditch the Power Nap and Become a True #KingOfRest

rest1It’s no secret that when you have kids, parents can pretty much kiss the idea of sleep goodbye. There’s always a chance you might be one of the lucky ones to have a kid that’s a good sleeper right off the bat, but you’re more likely to find a unicorn or four leaf clover. And if you do have one of those kids, keep it to yourself, because the rest of us are too tired to hear about it.
My son was a horrible sleeper for the first 8 months of his life. So much so I’m surprised he actually made it past those 8 months, and that he still has two (fairly) intact parents to care for him. My son eventually adjusted, but his parents never did. Yes we get more sleep than we were getting, but are in a perpetual state of tired.

As parents, we’re also always on the go, because let’s face it, kids want to do anything but rest. So, you’re probably wondering, how could I be the #KingOfRest if I’m always on the go? It’s simple really, I am a champion power-napper. One of the many life-hacks I learned during my time in the military was the ability to catch a nap no matter when, or where I was, and it comes in pretty handy when you have kids. I can always find 5 minutes to squeeze in a power-nap. Just look at these examples:
Here I am doing the laundry.
Catching a snooze while I make sure our bathroom is clean.
Cooking dinner for the family.
And here I am waiting for the Wife to meet us at the car….waiting….always waiting.
Of course, there is a downside to all the power naps; I rarely get a full night of sleep because my sleep patterns are all off, and I’m tired the next day. A true #KingOfRest, like any other king, knows when something isn’t working, and needs to change things up.
As I’ve gotten older I have experienced many of the drawbacks of not getting the proper amount of sleep. Some of those are:

  • Being tired all the time
  • Lack of motivation
  • Weight gain
  • Migraines

And the list goes on and on. Well, it’s high time I take back my restful night of sleep, and banish the power nap from my kingdom of rest. Getting a full night of sleep will ensure this #KingOfRest is alert and well-rested, ensuring I can rule over my kingdom without needing to sneak off for a nap.
Of course, I’m sure the Wife will still keep me waiting in the car, so maybe I can squeeze in a nap here and there.
Part of getting an awesome night of sleep is making sure you have the right kind of mattress. Make sure to head over to the great dudes at Life of Dad and enter to win a free Restonic queen-sized mattress.
Don’t forget to check out Restonic on Facebook and Twitter, and check out the awesome video below about their amazing mattresses and the benefits of a good night’s sleep.

I have partnered with Life of Dad and Restonic Mattress for this promotion. I was compensated for my work, but my opinions are my own.

This article was so awesome to read and it only took me an hour and a half to get thru it…one diaper change, two crys for attention, one fedex package delivery, and three punk rocker head nods (punk rocker head nods are when you fall asleep doing an activity and your neck falls forward and back violently hence the punk rocker nod)!
